Adam Smith already pointed out that for that statement to be true, it requires ten conditions to be met. Conditions like perfect information, all good being the same, all worker be the same, that companies can change the kind of product they produce without extra cost, all people starting out with the same money...

Most conditions doesn't happen in the real world. So that creates inefficiencies in the market. The more similar to the ideal, the better the market works. But for some basic products that are needed for survival it is already known the market doesn't work that well. Housing is a nice example. Since you need a house and there is no alternative product, people can rise prices as much as they want and people are forced to accept that. And you can't just move to another city with lower prices, since your jobs is located there.

But I'm not against the market, I just think that inefficiencies must be corrected so the market can work again. For example: no monopolies, no oligopolies. No speculation. Creating more evenfields with education so we won't lose talent due poverty... That doesn't require centralized government, but some regulation and public services help.

Fiction is the art to tell lies to show truths. Politics is the art to use truths to tell lies.
