bigotry works that way. Some people have internalized it, other think that if it is againts other groups is “justified” and others simply see themselves as the “exception”. After all, some hispanic people did vote for Trump.

Bigotry is founded on irrational reasons, mostly fear and low self steem. So denial (which have a branch on fake news) and lack of logic come hand in hand. I guess that bigotry provides them someone to blame for the things that make them feel bad. Uncertainty about the future, abuse at work were wages are stagnant and lower while housing price go up, unemployment, all those things are scary. Having a clear “enemy” to blame for everything that is out of your control is like a “placebo”. It creates the illusion that you can do something and that “once you have eliminated that people you hate, everything would be fine”. Hence, “MAGA”. Even if the past wasn’t that great to begin with. That is why they get so angry when you use history to remind them of the less than great parts of that past. You destroy their illusion and they lash out.

Fiction is the art to tell lies to show truths. Politics is the art to use truths to tell lies.
