I agree that shooters should be held accountable for their actions and that, usually, white men, get a pass/excuses for their behaviour. Not just for killing people, for rape too.

Having said that, as an european, we have gun control regulation and it helps to control this kind of thing. Not because the guns are what turn people into killers, but because when a killer use a gun or worse, a semiautomatic weapon, it can kill more people than when he (it is usually a he) uses a knife or an axe. And here police usually can stop the killer before they can kill many people.

Basically, the idea is that you can't outrun a bullet, but you can try to outrun someone with a knife/axe.

Now, I can understand why in US people have guns. There are wild animals and some culture around them. But maybe police would have an easier time if there was a limit on which kind of guns are allowed and put limits on the ones you can carry and where.

On the other hand, police should be held to higher standards than the rest of population to avoid abuse. No easy task, but it is clear that the mass shootings are a huge problem that needs to be addressed.

So yes to stop looking for excuses to mass shooters, but still in favor of some regulation. We already have that regulation here, the choice in US is for US citizens. but I wanted to add another perspective.
