I agree with your point. But to be fair, there were movies like Alien where the main lead was a women. Why were such films the exception and change didn't happen then? I don't really know, but it would be interesting to analyze so change now sticks.

I would also add to the analysis streaming platforms and how that is changing the films and TV shows that we watch. I'm under the impression that this is going to be disruptive and might be good for having more options and better representation.

I would certainly like to see more movies like Alien and really loved some recent feminist takes on the horror genre. Scify is also a genre that is good for this. Expanse is a good example. Sadly, if people doesn't know about films and TV shows, they might miss them and deemed unsuccessful.
