I guess some people needs to know. But from my perspective, if I distrust a partner enough to consider spying, then the relationship has become bad and I should break up.

I mean, if you confirm cheating you break up. But if you spy and there is no cheating, then you are the problem because you can't trust someone you should trust. Either way, things are not working and a break up is the way to go.
