I liked some of his old movies like Sleepy Hollow or the first Pirates of the Caribbean. But if I’m honest, movies like the one who plays a vampire were really bad. And he has several like that. I saw him in Harry Potter and his part was bland. My point is that for all the good movies he used to have, his last ones haven't been as good. This won’t be a problem if the box office for those movies was meeting expectations. But since the money he/those movies bring is decreasing, I would say that his “solid fanbase” doesn’t justify hiring him in the eyes of the producers.

I mean, if you look at the Pirates of the Caribbean box office by movie, you’ll see that the 4th and 5th movies did way worse than the first 3. The movie from Harry Potter he was in, didn’t work as well as the ones with Harry and he didn’t have good critics for his role in it.

So seeing the box office numbers, it makes sense for the producers to look for different talent that might also agree to a lower wage than Johnny Deep. I mean, chances are that Margot Robbie has a lower cache. Same for the one who replaced him as the antagonist. At the end of the day, Disney is a business and if they have to decide between a new star wars movie, a new Marvel movie, and a new Caribbean Pirates movie, they’ll choose the ones that would make them more money. And if an actor has a reputation to be late, coming with a hangover and not memorizing lines, for them is a problem. Being late on schedule means higher production costs and fewer profits.

Johny’s former agent said it clearly, it had become more difficult to find roles for him due to his drinking and taking drugs.

The fan base is meaningless if they don’t spend money on cinemas and merchandise.

There have been other actors accused of being abusive, but since they bring huge box office, they keep getting roles. Cristian Bale comes to mind (Batman and now as a marvel villain). PR fixes that kind of image problem all the time and people have a short memory. But when the public has a limited budget, not being able to catch their attention because you “play always the same role” is a huge problem. The film industry is ruthless.

So, if there is another Caribbean pirates movie, would you pay to see it? And if the answer is yes, would you go to the cinema, would you pay a subscription to Disney streaming, or would you see ads when it is- finally released on other channels? Because many fans would just download his movies from torrents or other free (and illegal) sources… Those fans don’t count. And from the ones who pay, the ones who spend more money, count more.

As I said, Johny's popularity was fading, while other stars like Christian Bale were taking that place. Younger actors would always take the place of the older ones. It happened to great actors before. And yes, Margot Robbie could play the “quirky pirate” with the added bonus of “sexy”. Or if you want a man, actors like John Cena, Dave Bautista, or the rock can do it. (Side note: Now I’m visualizing Dave Bautista as a pirate and I would buy it).

Be honest: if they offer you a good trailer with some of those actors, without all the PR campaign of the trial, would you not consider going to the movie? Because many people would and those actors ask for less money and are more disciplined (also younger and fitter).

Johnny has tough competition, that was the real reason he has been losing roles. So if he doesn’t lower his cache and becomes more disciplined, he would be out regardless of the result of the trial because it was never about being considered an abuser, but about being expensive and not bringing enough revenue to make up for the costs.
