Many "preferences" are the result of what people around us encourage us to do. That is why many children end in the same profession as their fathers. Women are encouraged to caring jobs, so only the outliers end in other fields.

to be fair, similar thing happens to men. Many drop out of college because they are told they don't need it. And that they can do "trade" works which are "more manly". For some people work, but not for others.
