I think some men delude themselves by thinking that while “men like young and beautiful women, women like powerful/rich men”. Therefore, when they are old, but have some money and think of themselves as “powerful” or at least with better social position, they consider themselves attractive.

As it happens, the one who thought that rich powerful men were attractive in the past, were the fathers of the women who decided the marriages for their daughters. While the daughters tended to see it as a way to achieve a social position and might or might not have a young lover. Example: king Arthur vs Lancelot.

Now society is changing, women can decide for themselves and old men aren’t nearly as successful in getting young women as they would like to be. That is why they complain so much about feminist. They rather think feminist “brainwash” young women that accept the very real possibility that women prefer men who look like the Hemsworth brothers. But the fact is that from young Leo Dicaprio in Titanic, to Pattinson, to Liam, young women usually choose young beautiful men, not rich or buff men.

And yes, women who look for money aren’t different than men who look for sex. both things are “commodities”, not love. XD
