If you compare suicide rates among countries, you'll see that is a huge difference. While men have more suicides across countries, Men in south america, Mediterranean or middle east commit less suicide than women in USA or South Korea. That tell us it is cultural. And maybe about weather/light.

But try to tell that to men. For all the talk about "being rational", they rarely bother to look at the data across countries. Why people at Italy commit less suicide than USA? Or than France, Spain, Germany, all south american countries... There is a pattern.
So if men really care about suicide rates, maybe they should try to find what is the pattern here. Because it seems to me that it has to do with a balance between work and personal life. Also having decent public helath care that won't ruin you so when you are in need, you can have access to mental healthcare (or physical, since chronic pain migh be a reason for suicide).
