It is a matter of perspective. If you were the first born male, patriarchy was great for you. You were expected to get everything and all the family members were to serve you.
But if you were a girl or a woman, patriarchy was terrible. You would never be free to decide over your own live, allways expected to serve, be used or even abused to further the patriarch goals... Take princess and queens. Supposedly the most poweful women back in the day, right? Yet, they were married off in marriages decided by their parents to seal political alliances. And then, regardless of what they wanted, forced to have one child after another until they die at childbirth.
The only situation were a woman has some kind of freedom were if she became a widow and only temporary, assuming she has already (male) children and no male relative to decide for her.
Values of patriarchy were bad for girls and women, also for many boys. That is why feminimism highlights all the ways in which patriarchy didn't work. Because for the patriarch and the first male born to have it so good, everyone else was screwed, including younger male siblings. As in the first male inherited, the second were sent to the church and the thirth or following were sent to the army to "make fortune" because that was the only option they have left. And sure, the ones in the army might make fortune and get a wive to serve them, but the girls? the girls were just "given away in marriage" to someone they didn't chose, regardless their dreams or hopes. Told they were too dumb to understand things, so why bother educating them? Expected to be glad if their hisband didn't hit them "too much".
Patriarchy wasn't kind to girls and women, that is why a movement that wants equal rights is not kind on historical patriarchy, because the more journals and biographies you read, the more of those not so nice things appear. And even the women with nice husband that never laid a hand on them were denied things like education or pursuing their dreams or even the right to decide when to hace sex or how many childrens they wanted.
Now, put yourself in that position, one were other people would decide for you on everything and you were expected to make happy that person who forced you to have sex when you arent in the mood or that says things like teaching you to read is a waste of resources. Would you miss that kind of life?
Yeah, patriarch were venerated, matriarch were considered witches unless they were under some men's control.
