It wasn't personal. Cris Rock was hired by the oscar producers who are mostly white men. Those producers saw his act based on sexist insults before the gala. Yet, those same producers found acceptable the insults to women (Not just Jada, also Penelope Cruz and others). They probably assumed that by calling those insults "jokes", then the women won't have other alternative than to put up with that.
So while Cris Rock was the one slapped (which traditionally is a way to put someone in their place), his act wasn't something improvised. It was specifically requested and paid for by other people. And there was more people insulted and attacked. In fact, all the years they insult women and we go over the same moves. Women complain, the men claim we are oversensitive and nothing changes...
Now maybe, performers would consider if an act based on insults is a good idea. After all, now they could end being the butt of the joke istead of the women, like it happens in the memes with Cris Rock. Now they might face consequences.
