Let me ask you something, have you seen his last movies? Because they are bad. And that is exactly my point.
I did saw him at the Harry Potter movie and he had a look that I call "give me my check". His acting was bad and he obviusly was there only for the check. The next movie improved by making the casting change. I know because I went to the cinema.
What I'm saying is based on what I have seen. Unlike DiCaprio, George Cloney or other actors who always deliver, Johnny doesn't. So as an average movie goer, it's been long a go since I stopped going to see Johnny's movies. And the box office of his movies reflect that. That is, it is not just me.
Now, you do sound like a "loyal fan", because only a loyal fan or someone who always believes men won't believe that Johnny's free fall has nothing to do with the failures from his last movies. Anyone who goes frequently to the cinema would tell you that an actors career depends on how many people goes to their movies and want to see them. Well, the major roles he was called from, were roles fron franchises where he had failed to deliver. That is the whole point. Caribbean pirates 5th dropped around 20% at the box office and expectation for a 6th movie were bad. People weren'r "hipped" about that. And people disliked his Grindewald acting. I saw both the one with Johnny and the one with the other actor and I would preffer the second one any day.
He is not the first actor whose career fall after a couple of flops. in fact, he has had plenty of flops. From Mordecai, to the one he played a vampire and a couple that went by without making a fuss. Not it would be the first time that movie is talked over to get nowhere. Disney won't release another Caribean Pirates until they think it is going to make more money than marvel and star wars. So there could be "talks" for a movie that it is left indefinetelly on hold.
So I'm sorry if after seeing his last films I do believe that he lost the roles due bad results, but the fact is that people who went to see those movies didn't come back talking about how great was Johnny there. It was very much the opposite. That is why he is losing roles and I keep saying that regardless the trial, if he doesn't get a great box office success his career would continue on free fall. I didn't read the Oped for Caribbean Pirates 5th (it was writen later) and I already chosed to not saw that. Same for the others. And the box office tell that many other people shared that view.
So I don't know who are those "loyal fans", but I do know that they haven't been going to the cinemas. Or that their numbers aren't enough to keep Johnny there.
Your thesis is not supported by data. That is the point. Find enough people who is more hipped by Caribbean Pirated 6th than, let's say, the next star wars. no?
Since the acting at harry potter was bad and the interest on Caribbean pirates was fadding, his claims that it was all a closed deal sound like a lie. Maybe one he believes, but a lie.
Again, if you were going to invest several millions in a big movie, would you pick someone who has done a bad job at the last ones or would you pick someone like Chris Prat, George Cloney, DiCaprio... Of course he is not getting roles outside indie films, the competition is far better!
