My theory is that some of the men who aren’t at the top of the (male) hierarchy chose to turn towards women because they might not be at the top but at least they are not women. By hating and hurting women they reinforce a hierarchy where they aren’t at the bottom, since at the bottom are women, people of color and LGTBI. Is a way to ensure their position.

After all, if you are mediocre and want to improve your social standing, being able to get rid of part of the competition by pointing out things like color, gender o personal traits is handy. I mean, some people play dirty and to not feel ashamed of playing dirty, they would convice themselves that, somehow, that is fair because pregnancy/natural preferences/they would be happier as housewives/the good of society/etc.

That is why they are so aggressive against SJW, they feel that they are “taking away” their edge in a system where they barely can get afloat. They saw their mothers supporting their fathers unconditionaly and feel they have the same right to a women who would sacrify herself for them. That is why they feel women “owe” them. What they haven’t considered is that it might not be fair for their mothers or the women and they didn’t care as long as they get what they want. They haven’t also considered that that was a social contract that women didn’t agreed to.

So, basically, what we are seeing is a social change and resistance to that social change by people insecure that think that they need and edge to make it (and that are confortable thinking about women as things and not people).
