Not really. Look around, there are plenty of perfectly average couples.
What we are seeing is that for the first time, women are chosing for themselves instead of their fathers arranging a marriage for them. And women have different tastes.
Some want the hot barista, others the cultured man, others like a man who would pamper them (that might require money or just being detail oriented), others like men with good manners. The list can go on but the woman who want a cultured man, might very well reject a "Devil" boyfriend (666) in favour of a man with some belly, lower wage, 5'7'' but that has incredible chemistry and conversation. And the woman who likes to go to the gym might very well met someone there.
No one can be liked by everyone because people have different tastes. And people usually look for people with similar traits. So the man who wants the "model" girlfriend, should probably try to met her at the gym. The one who wants a traditional girlfriend (which are the ones who look for protection and income), should probably try at church or right wing conventions. There is a logic to finding someone, once you understand this, it becomes easier.
