On a more positive note, I think that there are many involved fathers and fathers that would love to be more involved.

Parents are humans, many are flawed but do their best. Yes, there are terrible parents out there, but many do the best they can.

In the same way that women have been given the opportunity to work outside the home, fathers need the opportunity to get involved and spend time with their children. If you don't give them the chance, you would never know if they could be good.
