There are creative american authors that prove that there is sustance to American Society. What you fail to see is that society is multidimensional. You have disney and other powerful companies and you have smallers publishers and indie film companies. Both are part of that society.
You have a point about the "hollywood tratment" of stories, but I don't think it is fair to erase the creative and genuine work and substance that is also there. I mean, when they adapt stories from those authors they do something similar than what they do to Tolkien. But at the same time, some people who would see the movies and TC shows might seek the original source after so it is not all bad.
