Somehow in these "single units" it is still the man who decides what are the goals (that casually align with his) and the woman making sacrifices. And the man deciding what makes the family "thrive".

I think that in the families where the "unit" doesn't prioritize one individual, this works. But that is not what we are seeing. If it is not "two individuals" why aren't men making the same kind of sacrifices?
