So, basically, those women cared about men. Why do you think those women wanted to focus on how a man looked like if her wife was successful? Because when I think of that kind of woman, what comes to my mind is women focused on pleasing their husbands. So that pressure might have been women enforcing what men wanted. Not really new.
Also, in men-dominated places, usually women thrive by enforcing the unspoken rules. Besides, if they were so welcoming, why did she need lawsuits? So the man might not have been as welcoming as you think.
If you pay attention to your own anecdota data, it seems that all those women had to fight to get some credit for their work. While men would have simply gotten it. You are proving her point.
Hell, you are given credit to the men supporting his wives, but not to the women doing the same. It is taken for granted...
