There are also indigenous women who have their own version of feminism. Yet, since things are judged by an american perspective, americans can conceive that other cultures can also have feminism and that women on those cultures might want equality on their own.
They tend to overlook that many girls and women might want freedom, opportunities or not being married of to older men without anyone telling them. The idea that they might not enjoy certain traditions after living them, doesn't cross the men's minds. But things like "honor killings" existed before western feminism. And honor killings are the punishment for women who doesn't conform. That means that there was women who wanted equality way before western feminist came along. But those voices are ignored as "manipulated by western feminist" because it is convenient for wester men who want to preach about "sexist utopias".
