There is a saying that says "anecdota is not data". Your personal experience doesn't invalidate the experience of countless women. In fact, many women don't speak up when raped because they have previously heard some male relatives attack a rape victim and expect the same if they talk. And yeah, maybe those men would react differently if it was their daughter/wive, but since they don't know, the women fear being rejected, they won't speak up and would never know. As a result, they end up feeling isolated, unprotected, and unsupported.

Now, you tell me to read more. But I have read not only what scriptures said, but also biographies and historical texts. And interestingly enough, what they show is that there was a huge gap between what men say they did and what they actually did. Again, Hamilton was abandoned by his father. Many historical women were raped and their male relatives looked the other way or considered that marrying them off solved the problem and counted as "protection". Hell, the scriptures accept marrying a woman who has been raped as compensation. And you call that protection? For whom? Not for the women, but maybe for the men's pride.

What you don't see is that even the books that you consider "appropriate" and "non- feminist indoctrination" carry examples where it shows that your claims are simply not true. Again: solution for rape was marrying the girl/woman to the rapist. And women were served the last, so if there was not enough food, they would be the ones getting hungry. Even in India Amartya Sen (an economy novel) describe how microcredits worked better if given to women because women cared for the family, while men spend it on themselves... A man, from your culture.

Maybe it is you the one who should really more and give a thought at how things look from women's perspective because what works great for men, didn't work that well for women. Those things are documented, many times by men. They just use a light tone, since for them women's suffering is not that important as long as the "family honor" is not tarnished.

Fiction is the art to tell lies to show truths. Politics is the art to use truths to tell lies.
