This is faulty logic. Working towards amounting something, might get you properties or a social position. But women are people, not rewards. Amounting to something is the rewards (the same women get).

If you want a partner, then the things you need to do are different than the ones to get a good job/have social standing. And keeping that partner requieres constant work on the relationship by both partners.

Again, the idea that "amounting to something" would get you women, came from a time where fathers make that choice for their daughters and women weren't allowed to have bank accounts.
