To be fair, I think about 80% of men take the first hints or, if not, take the more clear "no". The problem is that the 20% that doesn't might make some women "weary" and tired so they might skip to the blunt rejection. I think it is similar to the men who won't believe that a woman has a boyfriend/husband because many say that instead of a simple "no" because their experience is that this is one of the few things that might work in order for them to accept a "no".
Everything would be a lot more easy for everyone if the 20% who won't take no for an answer didn't push boundaries.
