Well, after just one starwars movie with one female lead out of three, some people released a version where that same female lead was cut out from the movie. Apparently, for some people not being the only ones being represented was too hard.
Compared to that, asking for your existence to be acknowledge seems quite reasonable.
I know, I know, for some people women are just “furniture” and should look nice, but not talk at all. Be there just so we know that the all powerful white male lead is heterosexual and we don’t get any weird ideas by the fact that almost all cast is male. But you know what? We don’t have to support with our time and money things that treat us like background.
And we are free to criticize what we don’t like.
White men are represented almost 100% of starwars movies and TV shows and you don’t seem to have a problem with men asking to be leads on the next one. Why more than
Now that is clear that women and girls consume starwars products the adagio of “if you want to be represented you need to be in the hobbie” no longer holds. Why it is too much for females but not males? What’s the new excuse?
Why having 30% of speaking lines in Episode VII should be enough? Women are half of the humanity and not even in the film you use as an example of what should be “enough” we aren’t represented as 50%.
Well, maybe it should be one star wars TV show with just one male secondary character while all the others are female. Then you could answer if that is enough representation for you. If you would feel represented then. If the answer is no, then, why should it suffice for us? After all, you had Luke and Han, according to your “logic”, that should be enough, right?
Except I guess that people like you wanted that just one film was enough so you can go “back to normal” and us being furniture, sorry, love interest. And that we would be thrilled for being allowed to identify with the furniture. Sorry, but that won’t do.
