Well, I think that while it is difficult, id you try different things, you increase your chances. And some times it is a good idea to ask for help or try for different angles. If I were you, I would try to organiza a potluck for single people to meet. That way you can show off your cooking skills and meet other single people. Many times people feel more confident going with friends than alone. But by making it a "singles" eventos you also set expectations.
