Well, if I’m honest, I classify house chores between “things that you need to know in order to survive as an adult” like cooking or cleaning, since what you eat affects your health and you need a minimum level of cleanliness to not get ill, things that are useful (fixing things) and things that have become hobbies (knitting).

Everyone should learn the basic stuff needed to live well. Things that are useful but that won’t come up every day could be done by you or you can pay other to do it for you and the hobbies, well, they are for people who enjoy it.

Point is, some people depend on others for the very basic stuff. And while I won’t go into personal arrangements, I won’t buy that anyone is unable to do them. It is a choice and the situation should be framed as that, a choice.

It is not a matter of people who stay at home while their partner work, it is a matter of being aware that you are asking the other person for a favor (to do something for you that you should be perfectly able to do for yourself). When someone cook for me, I consider it a treat, like a present. Because it is. And I think that the people that do this things also enjoy being appreciated. Same for a clean house, etc.

Any task that I should be doing myself and is done by other person is a present and a really nice thing for me.

And I think this is the key of the problem, some people doesn’t consider that task their responsibility.

On the other hand, it is very true that in many works, overtime is taken for granted and not even compensated. And those kind of jobs are harder on the men who want to have a life outside work (not that overtime is not expected for women too, I should know XD). You should be able to go home on time if your job is finished. No reasons given.

And I guess it is the unfairness of this spectations that end making life worse for everyone.

I guess the first thing to fix that is identify the problems.
