Women aren't choosing Patrick over Larry, they are choosing themselves. In your own words, Larry is prioritizing his growth and his career. Which means that he would expect that she put hers in second place. Hence, women prefer a temporary, fun relationship that won't ruin their careers.
Your error is that you don't see women as people with their own interests and goals outside of their romantic relationships. Larry might remember "little details that matter" but is missing the big picture. ;)
